Urgent Call to Restore the Chinese Cultural Garden – A Legacy Worth Preserving

The Chinese Cultural Garden Restoration Project is now entering its second stage of fundraising.
In 2025, we successfully concluded the first phase of fundraising with our Fundraising Gala Dinner, which brought together over 250 friends, community leaders, and distinguished guests. Through this meaningful event, we raised approximately $200,000, including both monetary donations, construction materials, and long-term maintenance commitments.
These contributions have made it possible for us to break ground on the restoration of the Friendship Gate, marking a significant milestone in the revitalization of the Garden.
We are also honored to share an exciting development:
Through the support of Congressman Ro Khanna, the project has secured $1 million in federal funding for the restoration of the Reflecting Pool Pond surrounding the Confucius Statue.
As a result, the Friendship Gate and the Reflecting Pool Pond will be the two major restoration projects in 2026.
The restoration of the Chinese Cultural Garden is a multi-year commitment, and our fundraising efforts will continue. Looking ahead:
A Golf Fundraising Day will be held in September 2026
We will continue to engage with donors, partners, and community leaders throughout the year
We invite you to join us in preserving this cultural landmark and ensuring that its legacy continues for generations to come.

We stand at a pivotal moment in history, where the heart of our culture in the San Francisco Bay Area—the Chinese Cultural Garden in Overfelt Park—needs our immediate support. This garden, a cherished symbol of our heritage and unity, has suffered severe deterioration over the years due to weather, lack of maintenance, and recent vandalism. Without immediate action, we risk losing this invaluable landmark that embodies the spirit and contributions of our community.

Established in the 1970s with generous contributions from the Chinese American community and the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the garden has served as a cultural sanctuary, a place of learning, and a bridge of friendship between the East and the West. Today, we must unite once more to restore, revitalize, and protect this historical treasure for future generations.

The Chinese Cultural Garden Restoration Project is now underway, but we cannot accomplish this mission alone. We urgently need your donations and support to bring the garden back to life. Your contribution—big or small—will directly fund the restoration of key landmarks, including Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, the Friendship Gate, the Chiang Kai-shek Pavilion, and the Confucius Statue.

This is our moment to take action. Join us in preserving our culture, honoring our ancestors, and creating a lasting legacy for our children
